Detailed Description:

Physical- Arella is a tall, straight girl with blond hair that looks more like a bronze than the usual gold. Her eyes are a brilliant greenish blue, the color of the ocean, that capture you within their depths and hold you… hold you. She has fair skin and pretty features. Far from beautiful but also far from plain. Her hair is worn long. She has a commanding presence and a loud, parade ground voice. This girl has CHARISMA. She could charm a tunnelsnake out of its newest kill. However, her once magnificent looks have been marred. Her arms are now covered with scars from vicious burns, scars which also go up onto one cheek. She’s extremely self conscious about these scars, and often wears long sleeves (Even in the highest heat of summer) to cover them. The scars on her face she’s less able to cover, though she sometimes tries cosmetics.

Emotional- Arella, or 'Rella to her friends is a very sweet and caring person, but has a major tomboy streak from growing up with the guys. Her core is made of the finest iron, and when she gets her mind set on something its almost impossible to dissuade her. She’s charming, endearing, and attractive, traits she uses whenever she needs to get exactly what she wants. She’s never had a boyfriend, or a girlfriend. In fact, she hasn’t had many friends. Her fate was determined the moment she was born. She was going to ride gold, and nevermind what she may want… In truth, she doesn’t know what she’s wanted, and decided that what everyone wanted for her must be fine enough, so adopted it and made it her own, though, not so secretly, her eyes are drawn more to the bronzes of the weyr than the golds… It was only when she Impressed Kaylath that fateful day at the cave that Arella started to get some idea of who she was, or who she had the potential to become.

Brief History: Arellas and her twin brother were borne of a mating flight. During this mating flight, her father’s bronze took the Senior Queen, making him Weyrleader and conceiving these twins. That same pairing produced a Queen egg, which the Weyrwoman, and her dragon, declared meant that if a girl was born of the rider, she would surely ride a gold…and likely a daughter of that very queen. They had twins, a boy, Corran, then a girl, Arella. Clearly, both weyrleaders decided, that simply meant that one would ride Gold, the other Bronze..

And both the children were raised with that expectation in front of their faces every day. Most children would rebel against it, but these two embraced it. “Stand straight!” Her mother would say, the few times they saw one another. “Speak up! You’ll be Weyrwoman one day!” Both riders were not content to simply foster them out. Oh, they were fostered, but their parents made time for them as well, despite how much neither wanted it. Her mother had been the daughter of a Lord Holder before Impressing. Arella was of Holder blood, and she best not forget it!

Arella was anything but a proper young lady out of her mother’s sight. There were few girls in that area of the weyr, coincidentally. Arella became one of the biggest tomboys around, determined to kick the boys tails and do whatever they did better. To really have friends she had to become a little boy. The adaptation came easy to her, and she grew up climbing trees, scabby kneed, and doing anything the boys could do. This made her very strong and agile. She’d hunt and kill tunnelsnakes, and was delighted when she was given her own hunting knife.

As girlish times gave way to teenage years, though, both of them quickly adopted the dream of everyone around them. They’d be riders! They had to, in order to please their parents and do honor to their breeding. When they were 10, Arella’s mother’s dragon Caseth laid a clutch with a Queen egg. An exception was made, and Arella and Corran were to begin their candidacy early. It was made no secret that their parents expected them to Impress THIS impression… they had to.

They didn’t.

During the interval between clutches, both twins were pressured into crafts that would make them more suitable to the dragons for next time. Arella began studying to be a Dragonhealer. Corran settled on being a human healer, though he was unsuitable, and everyone knew that. Three years later, the Queen conceived the same day as the twins lay another clutch with a Queen. Neither impressed that clutch, either. Shortly afterward, the Weyrhealer had enough, and discharged Corran as unsuitable. By now, their parents were showing their disappointment in the two.

For seven years further, Arella studied under the weyrs Dragonhealer, while Corran became a hunter. She walked the tables at 18 to become a journeyman dragonhealer. Still, neither Impressed. As their 20th turn rolled around, Arella thought at least her rank would allow her to stay in the weyr to search out her lifemate, however, they were called to their parents weyr, and told in no uncertain terms that it was time for the pair to leave the weyr, and seek their fortunes out elsewhere. Their parents loved them, they were assured, and would always be there, but perhaps some distance…

Corran was furious, a fury that frightened his sister… with his best friend Satick, Corran stormed from the weyr with his sister in tow, and hatched a plan that terrified her deeply, though she tried to refuse, he begged, cajoled, and intimidated his twin into it, guilting her if she refused, until she gave in.

The group went to the jungles just south of the Weyr and created a headquarters from which to work. Once they were ready, Arella was sent to infiltrate the weyr, which she did, and guided the group to a series of tunnels from which they could access the hatching grounds from behind, and out of sight of most dragons. The group stole 15 of Orsamth’s eggs… but then things began to go wrong. After just a couple of days, a greenrider stumbled over the place. The group took her captive, but within hours the worst happened, and one of them fell while bringing oil to the fires to keep the eggs hot. In the small cave, oil flew everywhere, including on the eggs, and ignited from the flames. The fire surrounded and burned many of the eggs, and a queen egg died in the flames. Arella fell into the shell while trying to save it, and was badly burned over her arms and face.

The Greenrider alerted the weyr, which arrived quickly, but the damage was done. The broken shells were hatching the eggs THEN. The eggs cracked, and a little green made her way up the hill to Arella, naming herself as Kaylath to the girl, who had finally found her lifemate.

However, Weyrling training proved to have more obstacles for the determined young woman. Kaylath was injured by the fire, as were many of the dragons of her clutch. Her eyes were burned and blinded by the flames. Weyrling training turned out to be an exercise in frustration for the pair. With Kaylath unable to see, they were unable to perform most of the thread drills. However, any exercise testing a riders bond with her dragon proved to be one this pair would win hands down. They are extraordinarily close, even if Kaylath is blind.

Fortunately the Weyr saw that these would never be a fighting pair, and Arella and Kaylath were graduated early upon completing the first several months of weyrling training. This got them out of the way of the more promising pairs, as well as freeing Arella up to be a Dragonhealer full time, a position the Weyr desperately needed filled.

Description: A bright jade green, but this green has a twist. There is gold shot through her hide that when combined with her natural green turns into an amazing bronze. It looks almost striped, more pronounced around the legs and tail than the rest of her. Her eyes don’t hold the rainbow hues of most dragons. They are white.

Personality: Kaylath is perhaps calmer than most dragons. She had the benefit of feeling her lifemate close throughout the entire ordeal she went through in the shell. That, and the first few days when she became demanding, she hurt her lifemate, who had burns up and down her arms, and across her face.
